nina rubinina

Born in Moscow, Nina Rubinina developed a passion for photography early on and bought her first camera at the age of 13. She studied art in Russia.

In the 90s, she published numerous photos of various genres, but especially press photos in several Russian magazines and weeklies (notably, a report on Tajik refugees), as well as photos for the Belgian journalist Jean-Marie Chauvier.

In 2000, she moved to Brussels where she continued to photograph, without any particular subject except to look at life, her own life, but also and above all that of others.

She then adopted the philosophy of the English poet John Donne:

No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main; if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a manor of your friends or yours were, any man’s death diminishes me because I belong to the human race. And therefore never send to ask for whom the bells tolls: it tolls for you.

She has participated in several exhibitions and collaborated on projects with Globe Aroma and the Candelaershuys in Uccle.

For a few years now, she has been working on a project called Nomades de Bruxelles. It encompasses numerous photos as well as two video creations and should lead to the publication of a book in the near future.
